The Commission on Disabilities seeks interested individuals to fill three vacancies.

The Commission is an advisory group of residents organized under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8J whose mission is to foster equal access to community life and activities for people with disabilities.  Through education and advocacy, the Commission works to raise awareness about the needs and rights of people with disabilities.  The Commission also advises municipal officials and employees in ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.  The Commission also works with business in the private sector to do access surveys and recommendations to become ADA compliant.

Appointments are made by the Town Manager, subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen, for a term of three years.  A majority of said commission members shall consist of people with disabilities, one member shall be a member of the immediate family of a person with a disability and one member of said commission shall be either an elected or appointed official of that city or town.  Current vacancies include that of an individual with a disability, an immediate family member of a person with a disability, and the other is open for a person familiar with disability needs and regulations.

The Commission on Disabilities meets bimonthly on a Wednesday evening.
