Public Schools Closed 3/12/2020 Precautionary action

Late Wednesday night, school Superintendent, Dr. Glenn Brand, sent out the following message:

To Members of the Wilmington Community,

We learned earlier this evening that a Wilmington resident is symptomatic and being tested for COVID-19. The individual is a parent of two children who attend two of our schools (the high school and the West Intermediate School). Although the children have not presented with signs or symptoms of an infection I have made the decision to close all schools tomorrow - Thursday, March 12 - out of an abundance of caution.

The decision to close schools is consistent with the measures that other districts are taking in order to provide custodial staff the opportunity to complete a deep cleaning of our facilities. Not only will this cleaning occur at the West and the high school but all other schools.

As of this time, I expect that all schools will reopen on Friday, March 12.

We are working closely with the local Board of Health, the Town Manager and the Superintendent of Public Buildings in this effort and response and I thank them for their support, collaboration and assistance in these very challenging times.

Sincerely,

Glenn Brand

Superintendent of Schools
