Proposed North Wilmington Traffic Improvement Concepts - Public Comments Due July 14, 2026

The Town of Wilmington is advancing plans for a new elementary school (Pre-K through Grade 5) project located at the existing North Intermediate School parcel. With the expected increase in students, a traffic study confirmed an increase in traffic through the Middlesex Avenue and Salem Street corridor, to the intersection with High Street. The traffic study also identified intersection improvements that could promote better traffic flow, overall operations, and safety to this area of Town. The Town has engaged Vanasse & Associates, Inc. (VAI) to initiate preliminary design services and provide the Town with conceptual plans for upgrades to the local roadway network. The Department of Public Works has received the concept plans and has reviewed the general concepts with various Town Departments, including Wilmington’s Police and Fire Departments. The Department of Public Works presented the preliminary design and concepts for all proposed roadway improvements to the public at the June 22, 2026, Select Board meeting. With the plans currently in the early (conceptual) stages, the DPW is sharing the concepts with the public to provide an opportunity for feedback, comments, and concerns.
