Town Meeting

Town Meeting is the legislative body of the Town of Wilmington.  Wilmington has an Open Town Meeting, meaning that everyone registered to vote in Wilmington may attend, and vote at Town Meeting.  The 2024 Annual Town Meeting will be held on May 4, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.  Check in will begin at 8:00 a.m. It will be located at the Wilmington High School Auditorium, 159 Church Street.  You must be registered to vote by April 17, 2024 to participate.

The Warrant

During Town Meeting, residents vote on motions that are made on Articles on the Warrant.  The Warrant is a list of Articles to be acted on during the Town Meeting.  An Article is a proposal for a Town Meeting to take action on.  Together, the Articles in the Warrant comprise the Agenda of topics that are to be discussed and voted on during the Town Meeting,  Typically, the Town Meeting votes on the upcoming year's operating budget, capital expenditures, changes to By-Laws, the possible sale of town-owned land, Articles seeking to name a place in town, or other matters within the jurisdiction of Town Meeting.

Town Meetings are conducted in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, our Inhabitant By-laws and traditional customs and practices that we have followed for many years, with guidance provided by Town Meeting Time, a Handbook of Parliamentary Law, and Robert's Rules of  Order, Newly Revised: 11th Edition
