PFAS Information for the Town of Wilmington
After following a series of testing protocols in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and awaiting laboratory test results, we have learned of the presence PFAS chemical compounds (PFAS6) at levels above the state standard of 20 parts per trillion in the following water source(s):
Date of Sample | Location | Sample Result | MADEP Regulation (MCL) |
10/6/21 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | 20.6 ppt | 20.0 ppt |
Upon receiving the result, the Town immediately took proactive measures to address the situation and follow up samples were taken. Results showed that the level of PFAS was back below 20 ppt. Please see the table below:
Date of Sample | Location | Sample Result | MADEP Regulation (MCL) |
10/21/21 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | 16.5 ppt | 20.0 ppt |
11/01/21 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | No Detection | 20.0 ppt |
12/01/21 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | No Detection | 20.0 ppt |
1/05/22 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | No Detection | 20.0 ppt |
2/02/22 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | No Detection | 20.0 ppt |
3/02/22 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | No Detection | 20.0 ppt |
4/06/22 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | 2.4 ppt | 20.0 ppt |
5/01/22 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | 3.0 ppt | 20.0 ppt |
6/06/22 | Sargent Water Treatment Plant | 6.3 ppt | 20.0 ppt |
Even though the level from 10/6/21 was above the MCL, a PFAS6 MCL violation did not occur, as violations are usually based on three months of testing. However, as our customer, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we did and are doing to correct the situation.
