Wilmington Beetle Watchers

Help Wilmington Proactively Scout for Invasive Tree Predators

The Wilmington Department of Public Works needs your help in keeping invasive insects such as the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB), Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), and Spotted Lanterfly out of Wilmington.  There are currently no recorded or confirmed sightings of these insects in Wilmington and working together we can ensure any infestation is properly contained, managed, and short lived.  The above links are an excellent source of education if you are interested in learning more and helping protect the community.

Do not confuse Asian Longhorned Beetle with the White Spotted Sawyer - the most frequent case of mistaken identity when scouting for ALB (check ALB look-alikes link above).

Join the Wilmington Beetle Watchers by volunteering your time to conduct tree surveys in your neighborhood.  The Department of Public Works will be maintaining an ALB / EAB tree survey database to ensure that no signs of either pest are present.  Combined with GIS mapping technology and a little investigative work on your part, we can develop a map of the area which keeps track of surveyed and yet-to-be-surveyed areas of Town.  Our findings will be reported to the USDA  Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
