ADA Accommodations

In June 2023, the Massachusetts Office on Disability issued a memorandum titled,“Reasonable accommodations at Town Meetings.”1 (hereinafter, the “Memo”). Citing Title II of the Americans with Disability Act, the Memo instructed that Massachusetts towns must make their Town Meetings accessible to individuals with a disability. This means not just making meeting spaces accessible, but also “proactively considering what accessibility features may be necessary to allow people with disabilities to meaningfully participate in the meeting.”  Because of this, the Town of Wilmington has created an ADA Accommodations policy for Town Meeting. Click here to open that policy.  The form to apply for this accommodation is located here!

The Warrant

During Town Meeting, residents vote on motions that are made on Articles on the Warrant.  The Warrant is a list of Articles to be acted on during the Town Meeting.  An Article is a proposal for a Town Meeting to take action on.  Together, the Articles in the Warrant comprise the Agenda of topics that are to be discussed and voted on during the Town Meeting,  typically, the Town Meeting votes are on the upcoming year's operating budget, capital expenditures, changes to By-Laws, the possible sale of town-owned land, Articles seeking to name a place in town, or other matters within the jurisdiction of Town Meeting.
Town Meetings often include Articles that propose changes to our by-laws.  Please see below for the Currently -accepted versions of our by-laws:
