Letter from Finance Committee to Registered Voters Regarding Special Town Meeting March 8, 2022

To the Voters of Wilmington:

In the Spring of 2021, the Town of Wilmington was invited into the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s (MSBA) grant program.  Wilmington was selected from a group of 71 applications to partner with the funding agency with the prospect of continuing through feasibility, design and construction of an educationally appropriate and cost-effective public school facility.  To maintain and continue this relationship the Town must appropriate $1,200,000 for a feasibility study to consider options for the replacement of the Wildwood Early Childhood Center.

On January 5, 2022 the Board of Selectmen approved a Warrant Article placing this matter before residents at a Special Town Meeting.  Since the Town’s eligibility with the MSBA expires on March 28, 2022, the Special Town Meeting vote must occur prior to that deadline.  On Tuesday, March 8, 2022 the Town will hold a Special Town Meeting at the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road) at 7:00 p.m. to vote on this Article.

On February 15, 2022 the Finance Committee held a Public Hearing to discuss the Article.  Once concluded, the Finance Committee held a meeting to discuss the Warrant Article and unanimously approved of the appropriation.

It is the Committee’s recommendation for approval of the Article which is a step forward in allowing the Town to receive a grant to cover a portion of the proposed school’s cost.

Please consider attending the Special Town Meeting.
