WILDWOOD SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE

April 2024

On Wednesday, April 3 the Wildwood School Building Committee (WSBC) unanimously authorized our Owner’s Project Manager to submit the Wildwood Early Childhood Center building project’s Preliminary Design Program to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA).

This represents a key milestone in this important project and now authorizes the Town and District, through our Owner’s Project Manager, to submit to the MSBA a variety of documents that identify our project’s Preliminary Design Program at this early stage of the project.

One of the key decisions that this approval made was to narrow the total number of building option possibilities currently being considered from 18 to five (5) to further explore over the course of the next five (5) months.

The five (5) school building options approved to move forward include the following:

  • PK-K base repair only
  • New PreK-K school at the current Wildwood school site location
  • New PreK-Grade 3 school at the current Woburn Street School site that would include all students from Wildwood and Woburn Street
  • An addition/renovation at the current North Intermediate School site that would accommodate students in Grades PreK-Grade 5 bringing together all students from the Wildwood, Woburn Street and North
  • New PreK-Grade 5 school at the current North Intermediate School site that would bring together students from the Wildwood, Woburn Street School and the North Intermediate School

The WSBC is made up of WPS staff, school, District and Town leaders, parents/guardians, community members and representatives from the Town of Wilmington’s School Committee, Select Board, Finance Committee and Permanent Public Building Committee. As both the Superintendent and Chair of the WSBC I am extremely appreciative of the committee members’ time, commitment and overwhelming support in helping us move forward to the next phase of the project.

I welcome you to stay informed about all of the developments associated with the project and welcome you to visit our project website below for more information.
