Route 38 Main Street Railroad Bridge - Update

Update 2/6/26

This is an “accelerated” Bridge Project.  The bridge is being built adjacent to the existing bridge and once completed, will replace the existing bridge.   The State’s Contractor, MIG Corp, is currently advancing with foundation work and excavation support systems astride the railroad tracks.  At the road surface, MIG is currently working on relocating the overhead wires and plan to construct a utility support bridge in construction season 2026.  Delays have occurred due to varying subsurface conditions encountered during the foundation excavation which prompted a re-design of the bridge foundation.   The Town will post any changes to the overall schedule to the DPW webpage once received by MassDOT.

Update 1/29/25 - Under Construction and On-schedule (Substantial Completion Estimated in October 2026):

This is an “accelerated” Bridge Project.  The bridge is being built adjacent to the existing bridge and, once completed, will replace the existing bridge.   Thus, the State’s Contractor, MIG Corp, is currently advancing with constructing the bridge within an easement in Town Park (and reportedly slightly ahead of schedule).  At the road surface, MIG is currently working on relocating the overhead wires and construction of the utility bridge in construction season 2025.
