Wilmington earns Tree City USA again for 2023

Arbor Day Foundation Recognizes the Town of Wilmington

The Arbor Day Foundation has again recognized the Town of Wilmington as earning Tree City USA for calendar year 2023 !  The official press release can be found by clicking here

The Designation of Tree City helps recognize Wilmington for the many efforts and investments made by various departments in tree care, tree conservation, and urban forestry planning and is listed as an ongoing goal in the town’s Open Space and Recreation Plan.  The designation is made by the National Arbor Day Foundation in conjunction with the National Association of State Foresters and to date, there are over 3,400 cities and towns recognized as “Tree City USA”. 

To be considered for Tree City USA, communities must meet four standards within a calendar year:

Standard 1: Community Must Have a Tree Board or Tree Department

Standard 2: Community Must Have a Tree Care Ordinance

Standard 3: A Community Forestry Program With Annual Budget of At Least $2 Per Capita

Standard 4: Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation
